Weekly Crime Report for 10/5/2015

Here is the Midtown weekly crime report, for the week ending 10-5-15. For this report, Midtown is the area from 35W to Hiawatha, between 28th and 32nd Streets. The report is attached as a Word file and the text is reprinted below.

There were  23 Part 1 (most serious) crimes reported last week, down from 25 last week. Thankfully, only 4 of these were violent crimes-3 robberies (down from 8 last week) and 1 aggravated assault.

There were 6 burglaries last week, which is more than usual. I was surprised to find that in 4 of these cases, there were no signs of forced entry. In the 5th case, the lock was described as “loose” and possibly not working. In the 6th case, a ground-level window was broken and the loss taken without the burglar entering the building. Please remember to make sure your locks work and use them at all times. It’s also a good idea to keep valuables away from easily accessed first floor windows or to cover these windows with shades or blinds.

Please see the section of the report about becoming a mentor through Kinship of Greater Minneapolis. Mentors can make a real difference in kids’ lives and many are needed.

This Saturday is Fall Clean Sweep in the four Phillips neighborhoods. There is good evidence that clean surroundings deter crime so please help out. There is more information in the report and attached, including a flyer in Spanish.

Since it is Clean Sweep time, it’s good to know that Hennepin County has a new Green Disposal Guide to help you figure out how to get rid of all sorts of unwanted things. See the report for more information.

Powderhorn park Neighborhood Association has a new Executive Director, Tabitha Montgomery. There is a welcome for her on October 15th. See the report for more details.

As always, I appreciate your comments on these weekly reports. What would you like to see included? I want the reports to be useful to you.

Please forward this report to anyone who would be interested. Thank you.
