Community bike ride to the 2014 Somali Independence Day Celebration at Lake and Blaisdell.

We will gather up at SPOKES, leave at 12:30 and head over to the event which begins at 1. This is a family friendly ride and the pace will be comfortable. We are hoping to have a short tour by one of the festival organizers when we get there, details to come. There will for sure be food, music and plenty of fun for the young-ins. You can bike back with the group around 3ish or get home on your own. This is a great chance to go for a shortish bike ride, make some new friends, and learn more about Somali culture and history.

6th Ward City Council member Abdi Warsame will provide a short history talk about Somali Independence day when we arrive at the celebration.

SPOKES is at 1915 East 22nd Street, Minneapolis. (One block west of Minnehaha Avenue on 22nd Street.
Most of the ride is on trails (Hiawatha LRT bike trail and Midtown Geenway) with about four blocks on low traffic streets.
