Charges Filed in South Minneapolis Homicide

At approximately 10 PM on March 8th, third precinct officers responded to a report of multiple shots fired on the 2700 block of Longfellow Ave So. Officers found a deceased male with apparent gunshot wounds.

On March 17, 2014 the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office charged Maureen Ndidiamaka Onyelobi, DOB: 08/14/1985 with Second Degree Murder for the homicide.

OTHER UPDATES:

 Two officers working the dogwatch (overnight) shift made a traffic stop of a vehicle that failed to dim it’s headlights as the vehicles approached from opposite directions on the street. During the course of the stop officers smelled what they believed to be a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. Neither the driver or the passenger had a valid driver’s license. Officers observed a large bag containing what they believed to be marijuana in the vehicle. One of the suspects told them that it was his. The marijuana tested positive. Both parties were taken to the jail and the car was towed. The driver, when interviewed at the jail, said that he knew that he had the high beams on, but didn’t know how to turn them off. Both were charged (narcotics and driver’s license violations).

 During the course of another traffic stop on the same shift, two different officers took a weapon from a suspect while struggling with him. Their skill and presence of mind prevented a serious injury or worse. Two officers made it home at the end of their shift, one suspect went to jail and no one was injured.

 On March 7th a robbery occurred at 21st and Lake. The victim displayed a cell phone which the suspect grabbed and ran with. A quick call to 911 by an on- looker and a good description of the suspect lead to the arrest of the suspect nearby, shortly after the robbery. The moral to this story. Keep your phone in your pocket. Cell phones are one of the most commonly taken items in robberies and thefts.

 On March 12th, undercover officers conducted a “John” detail at 14th and Lake. Four males were arrested for Gross Misdemeanor Prostitution. All four of the males arrested are Minneapolis residents.

 On March 16th, four juvenile suspects were arrested following an attempted robbery/carjacking in the area of 26th and Cedar. It was later determined that they may have been involved in four previous robberies on March 15th in Midtown and East Phillips.

 On March 17th, 3rd Precinct Undercover Officers arrested three people in the Chicago Franklin Targeted Enforcement area (TE) for narcotics related loitering. One of the three was also arrested for failure to register as a sex offender. They arrested two in the West Lake Street TE and three in the Bloomington Lake TE, for narcotics/prostitution related offenses
