Here is the Midtown weekly crime report, for the week ending 11-9-15. For this report, Midtown is the area from 35W to Hiawatha, between 28th and 32nd Streets. The report is attached as a Word file and the text is reprinted below.
There were 24 Part 1 (most serious) crimes reported last week, up from 18 last week. There were 8 violent crimes reported-1 rape, 4 robberies and 3 aggravated assaults. It’s important to note that arrests were made in all 3 of the aggravated assaults
A reminder that the Lake Street Council is holding its annual fundraiser, theLake Street Bash, next Thursday, Nov. 19, 5:30-8:30 pm at El Nuevo Rodeo, 3003 27th Ave S. This fun event includes wine and beer tasting, authentic Mexican food, kombucha samples, live music and a silent auction. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. If you can’t make the event, there is also an online auction which is open until Dec. 9. See the report for more.

Midtown Area Crime Report, Week of 11-3 to 11-9-15

Midtown is the area between Highway 35W and Hiawatha Ave, between 28th St E and 32nd St E
- There were 24 Part 1 crimes during the week, up from 18 last week. Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, arson, auto theft and larceny (theft). Public information for all but the larceny incidents appears below.
- There were 8 violent crimes-1 rape, 4 robberies and 3 aggravated assaults.
- There were no homicides or arsons reported during this week.
- There was 1 business robbery and 1 business burglary reported during the week.
Targeted Enforcement Areas
Lake Street (West End) area (29th St E to 32nd St E, 2nd Ave S to Chicago Ave S) was a targeted enforcement area for street crimes this week. Strategies included directed patrols, beat officers, undercover details, Metro Transit PD extra patrol at bus stops, Lake/Chicago crime & safety meeting, meeting results re: security and training w/ management of a business having numerous problems.
Lake/Bloomington area (28th St E to 31st St E, 12th Ave S to 16th Ave S) was a targeted enforcement area for street crimes this week. Strategies included directed patrols, beat officers, Metro Transit PD extra patrol at bus stops, business outreach meetings-working on setting up a Latino business meeting, Lake and Bloomington business meeting next week, business nodes meetings, working with a business to get more lights at 15th & Lake (should be on by the end of the week) and a lighted camera at 15th and Lake.
Part 1 Crimes in Midtown This Week (Excluding Larceny)
11-6, 12:00 am to 3:00 am 29xx Chicago Ave S (Midtown Phillips neighborhood) Officer responded to Hennepin County Medical Center regarding a Criminal Sexual Conduct at the Midtown Exchange Building. Victim was able to provide suspect information. Victim was provided a blue card and advised.
11-3, 10:50 pm 30xx Chicago Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Officers were dispatched to above location regarding an attempted robbery of person. Victim stated that Suspect approached him in the alley and asked him for a cigarette. Victim stated that he did not smoke. Suspect then pulled a black semi auto handgun from the front of his waistband and told Victim to give him his wallet. Victim told Suspect “no” and ran into the rear of his address. Victim stated he saw Suspect run south bound in the alley after he called 911. Shortly after calling 911 Victim observed Suspect return to the rear of his address and point the gun at his house and fire one round. Suspect then ran east bound. Victim provided a description of Suspect. Victim stated he could identify Suspect. There was no loss in the attempted robbery. Officers did not locate any casings on scene. Officers did not observe any damage to Victim’s house. Victim stated it was possible that Suspect had a BB or airsoft gun. Officers checked the area for Suspect who was gone on arrival. Victim was given a blue card and advised.
11-4, 11:00 pm Business (Taxi) 29th St E & Park Ave S (Phillips West neighborhood)Officers dispatched to meet the victim of a robbery. Report made.
11-7, 12:04 pm 32nd St E & Bloomington Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) The victim was robbed by 2 unknown males on bikes.
11-7, 9:53 pm 30xx 11th Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Officer responded to the listed location on a Robbery of person. Victim 1 and Victim 2 stated that they were exiting their vehicle when multiple suspects approached, assaulted them and took the listed property from them. Suspect then fled the scene. Victim 1 and Victim V2 were seen by Emergency Medical Service. Victims had very little suspect information. Victim 1 and Victim 2 were given a blue card. Property left by one of the suspect was located and later property inventoried.

11-3, 10:34 pm 29xx Cedar Ave S (Midtown Phillips neighborhood) Arrestee (Deondre Renaldo McCabe) was booked Hennepin County Jail (for 2 felony offenses)…V1 was given a blue card…
11-5, 9:47 pm 23xx Lake St E (East Phillips neighborhood Arrestee 1 (Daniel Lamar Ford) was booked Hennepin County Jail for Assault 2, Arrestee 2 (Stephen Abdi Roble) was booked for a warrant. Victim refused blue card and medical attention. Arrestee 1 fled on foot from Officers and was seen by pursuing Officer to throw the weapon onto a building. Arrestee 1 was caught and the weapon recovered. Arrestee1 booked Probable Cause Assault 2. Probable Cause authorized by Sgt Kunze #3910.
11-9, 11:30 pm 2xx Lake St E (Central neighborhood) Arrestee ( Bashir Farah Hayle) was booked Hennepin County Jail for Probable Cause Assault 2.
11-3, 2:55 am to 12:30 pm Business 3xx Lake St E (Central neighborhood) Owner of above discovered cash missing from the register when he opened the store. Owner looked at the surveillance video and saw a white male force his way into the outside door of an old service elevator. Suspect was able to break another door and gain entry into the store. Surveillance video shows the suspect taking cash out of the register. Owner said he knows who the suspect is because he is in the area begging. Owner said he had just observed the suspect near 31st St and 35W begging on the corner. Owner states he has seen the suspect on a nice motorcycle driving in the area. Owner does not know the suspect’s name. Owner opened for business before calling police later in the day. Owner given blue card.
11-6, 7:10 pm 30xx Clinton Ave S (Central neighborhood) Two unknown suspects entered Victim’s apartment through an unsecured window. The listed items were stolen. Crime Lab responded to the scene. The suspects were gone upon arrival. The area was checked with negative results. Victim was issued a blue card.
Auto Theft (2)
11-5, 3:39 am to 4:25 am Lake St E & 4th Ave S (Central neighborhood) Officers queried a vehicle which was stolen out of Wisconsin. A high risk stop on the vehicle was made and the driver was arrested and booked for receiving stolen property.
11-7, 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm 29xx Oakland Ave S (Phillips West neighborhood) Officer was dispatched to the listed location on report of an auto theft. Upon arrival, Reporting Person stated that he had parked MN: 503GGT on the west side of Oakland Av S in front of the residence. Reporting Person stated that he left the residence at approximately 1730 hours and the vehicle was there. Reporting Person said that when he returned around 2230 hours the vehicle was gone. There was also no broken glass where the vehicle was parked and Reporting Person said that the doors were locked. Reporting Person said that he has keys to the vehicle but he did leave a spare set in the in the truck. Reporting Person described the truck as a gray extended cab with a matching gray topper. Reporting Person also said that there was a “NARI member” bumper sticker on the rear of the truck and a 24′ ladder on the roof. Reporting Person stated that no one has permission to drive the vehicle. There is no suspect information. Reporting Person was given a blue card.
