Midtown Weekly Crime Report 9/28/15

Here is the Midtown weekly crime report, for the week ending 9-28-15. For this report, Midtown is the area from 35W to Hiawatha, between 28thand 32nd Streets. The report is attached as a Word file and the text is reprinted below.

 

There were  25 Part 1 (most serious) crimes reported last week, down from 33 last week. Nine of these were violent crimes-1 rape and 8 robberies. Robbery continues to be a significant problem, particularly on and near Lake Street.  Please remember to stay alert to your surroundings at all times and call 911 whenever you see suspicious activity. Midtown Area Crime Report, Week of 9-22 to 9-28-15

Midtown is the area between Highway 35W and Hiawatha Ave, between 28th St E and 32nd St E

Summary

  • There were 25 Part 1 crimes during the week, down from 33 last week. Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, arson, auto theft and larceny. Public information for all but the larceny (theft) incidents appears below.
  • There were no homicides, aggravated assaults or arsons reported during this week.
  • There were no business robberies and no business burglaries reported during the week.

 

Targeted Enforcement Areas

The Lake Street (West End) area (29th St E to 31st St E, 2nd Ave S to Chicago Ave S) was a targeted enforcement area for street crimes this week. Strategies included directed patrols, beat officers, undercover details and business nodes meetings.

 

Lake/Bloomington area: 29th St E to 31st St E, 12th Ave S to 16th Ave S was a targeted enforcement area for street crimes this week. Strategies included directed patrols, beat officers, Metro Transit PD extra patrol at bus stops, , business nodes meetings, working with businesses to get more lights at 12th & Lake and request mobile camera at 12th and Lake.

 

Part 1 Crimes in Midtown This Week (Excluding Larceny)

                                                                                     Rape (1)

9-22, 7:25 pm  29th St E & 12th Ave S (Midtown Phillips neighborhood) Arrestee (Depholdia Scott) was arrested for Criminal Sexual Contact. Arrestee’s clothing was property inventoried at City Hall. Squad 710 (Sex Crimes Investigators) notified and Car 21 (Crime Lab) notified.

 

Robbery (8)

9-22, 7:25 pm  29th St E & 12th Ave S (Midtown Phillips neighborhood) Victim was punched and robbed of her purse. Suspect fled in white sedan.

 

9-23, 10:00 pm  32xx Portland Ave S (Central neighborhood) Officers responded to the above location on a robbery of a person at gunpoint. Victim was not assaulted and did not require Emergency Medical Services. Victim was given a blue card. The listed property was taken.

 

9-24, 5:15 pm  32xx 4th Ave S (Central neighborhood) Victim reports that was robbed at the incident location. Suspect was gone when officers arrived. Victim was given a blue card and advised. (After speaking with the victim, officers located Abdinasir Abdul Ali and arrested him  for Robbery of Person Aggravated (Felony)).

 

9-25, 1:30 am  31xx 15th Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Victim was making a delivery when he was assaulted and his vehicle stolen. Auto Desk notified.

 

9-26, 5:40 am  29xx 5th Ave S (Phillips West neighborhood) Squad responded to a call for a robbery of dwelling in progress.

 

9-27, 12:58 pm  31xx 15th Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Officer dispatched to the report of a robbery with a gun. The suspects took the victim’s wallet, no injuries reported and Emergency Medical Services were declined. The victim was given a blue card.

 

9-27, 9:40 pm  30xx 14th Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Officers responded to the listed address for a Robbery of Person Aggravated call. The suspects were gone on arrival. Victim was given a blue card.

 

9-28, 5:30 am  Lake St E & 15th Ave S (Border of Midtown Phillips & Powderhorn Park neighborhoods) At above, Victims were beaten up and robbed by unknown males.

 

Burglary (5)

9-23, 10:15 to 11:17 am 30xx 10th Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Between the listed times Suspect cut the screen to a south side facing window, and opened an unlocked window. The inside window shade was pulled off the front door. Nothing was taken from the scene and there was no physical evidence. Victim 1 and Victim 2 had a 50lb rescued dog which they think got out through the window that was left open. Victim 1 was given a blue card.

 

9-24, 12:00 am to 12:08 am 29xx 18th Ave S (East Phillips neighborhood) Victim was in his bed when an unknown suspect entered through the insecure bedroom window. Suspect pointed a handgun at Victim and took his pants, which had his house keys inside of them. Suspect climbed back out of the window he entered into and was gone when officers arrived. Victim given a MPD Blue card. It should be noted that I utilized the language line for interpretation.

 

9-24, 1:16 am 30xx Clinton Ave S (Central neighborhood) Suspect 1 and Suspect 2 entered the listed residence through a side window and stole cash and cell phones from the victims. Suspects were both gone on arrival; Victims given a blue card.

 

9-24, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm 30xx 10th Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) Victim lives in a duplex at the above listed address. While Victim was gone today, an unknown suspect pushed the AC unit in and made entry into Victim’s bedroom. Nothing appears missing but a desk drawer near the window was left open and possibly some clothing drawers were open too. Obvious valuables (electronics) were present but not taken. It does not appear that any other part of the house was searched. No witnesses and no apparent evidence. Please note that Victim’s home was broken into w/ nothing taken the previous day (15-358179). Victim doesn’t know why this is happening and doesn’t know why anyone would target her.

 

9-22, 4:30 pm to 9-27, 2:30 pm 30xx 12th Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood) On 09/28/2015 a male identified as Victim walked into the Third Precinct Station to report that a bike had been stolen from inside his garage. There were no witnesses, suspects, or recoverable evidence identified. Victim was given a case card and advised.

 

Auto Theft (1)

9-25, 12:50 pm to 4:00 pm  31st St E & Elliot Ave S (Powderhorn Park neighborhood)Victim parked MN 500CZP, a burgundy colored 4 door Nissan Sentra, near above between 31 St E and 32 St E on Elliot Av S. When Victim returned from work, he was unable to find his vehicle. Victim has all keys for the vehicle and did not loan the vehicle to anyone. He was advised to call police if vehicle is located and was given a blue card. Autodesk was notified.

9-22  29th St E & Park Ave S: Kenneth Hardin arrested and booked in Hennepin County Jail for Narcotics Violation (Felony).

 

9-22  29xx 12th Ave S: Clarence James Brown arrested and booked in Hennepin County Jail for a Felony Warrant, Loitering with Intent-Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia; Theo Roneissued a citation for Loitering with Intent-Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia; Thomas James Albert issued a citation for Loitering with Intent-Narcotics.

 

9-22  Lake St E & 15th Ave S: Cheyenne Sunset Mitchell  issued a citation for Loitering with Intent-Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia.

9-22  Lake St E & 12th Ave S: William Thomas Jones arrested and booked in Hennepin County Jail for a Felony Warrant and issued a judicial release receipt for Loitering with Intent-Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia.

 

9-23  28th St E & 13th Ave S: Jeremy Michael Hart arrested and booked at Hennepin County Jail for Residential Burglary (Felony) and a Gross Misdemeanor Warrant. Anthony Ray Deegan, Michelle Lorna Blackcloud and Delores Tobbi Yellow arrested and booked at Hennepin County Jail for Residential Burglary (Felony).
