Midtown Weekly Crime Report 11-16-15

Here is the Midtown weekly crime report, for the week ending 11-16-15. For this report, Midtown is the area from 35W to Hiawatha, between 28th and 32nd Streets. The report is attached as a Word file and the text is reprinted below.

 

There were  16 Part 1 (most serious) crimes reported last week, down from 24 last week. There was a double homicide in the 2800 block of 15thAve S early last Monday. Only two other violent crimes were reported-1 robbery and 1 aggravated assault.

Midtown Area Crime Report, Week of 11-10 to 11-16-15

Midtown is the area between Highway 35W and Hiawatha Ave, between 28th St E and 32nd St E

 

Summary

  • There were 16 Part 1 crimes during the week, down from 24 last week. Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, arson, auto theft and larceny (theft). Public information for all but the larceny incidents appears below.
  • There were 3 violent crimes-1 homicide, 1 robbery and 1 aggravated assault.
  • There were no rapes or arsons reported during this week.
  • There were business robberies and no business burglaries reported during the week.

 

Targeted Enforcement Areas

Lake Street (West End) area (29th St E to 32nd St E, 2nd Ave S to Chicago Ave S) was a targeted enforcement area for street crimes this week. Strategies included directed patrols, beat officers, Metro Transit PD extra patrol at bus stops, Lake/Chicago crime & safety meeting and checking with Licensing re: security system of a business having numerous problems. Results included: Patrol: 33 stops, 8 directed patrols and 6 arrests; Crime Prevention Specialists: 52 business contacts, 9 residential contacts

 

Lake/Bloomington area (28th St E to 31st St E, 12th Ave S to 16th Ave S) was a targeted enforcement area for street crimes this week. Strategies included directed patrols, beat officers, Metro Transit PD extra patrol at bus stops and Lake/Bloomington, business outreach meetings-working on setting up a Latino business meeting, working with a business to get more lights at 15th & Lake. Results included: Patrol: 49 stops, 28 directed patrols, 2 arrests; Crime Prevention Specialists: 12 business contacts, 16 residential contacts.

 

Part 1 Crimes in Midtown This Week (Excluding Larceny)

Homicide (1)

11-16, 1:56 am  28xx 15th Ave S (Midtown Phillips neighborhood) Officers responded to the above location for a shots fired. Upon arrival two shooting victims were located in listed vehicle. Emergency Medical Service responded. Squad 305 was on scene and Car 9 (Watch Commander) was notified. (Note: The victims were later identified as Frank Leonard Perryand Erin Marie Miller.)

 

Robbery (1)

11-12, 7:15 pm  23xx Lake St E (East Phillips neighborhood) Officer was dispatched to meet with the victim of a Robbery at the Mall of America. The robbery occurred onboard the Blue Line, Southbound Light Rail Vehicle 224 at the Lake St. station.

 

Aggravated Assault (1)

11-13, 3:00 am  29th St E & Chicago Ave S (Border of Phillips West and Midtown Phillips neighborhoods) Victim was involved in a fight where he received superficial wounds from a knife to his left pinky finger and his left thumb. Victim was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance and was medicated upon his arrival. Victim was unconscious and unable to give details of the assault. It is unknown who the suspect(s) are at this time. Blue (victim resources) card was given to hospital staff to put in his property.

 

Burglary (3)

11-10, 5:00 am to 1:30 pm  31xx 23rd Ave S (Corcoran neighborhood) Between the listed times, an unknown suspect forced open the service door to Victim’s unattached garage. The listed item was stolen. Victim was given a blue (victim resources) card.

 

11-14, 4:00 pm to 11-15, 12:45 am  29xx Columbus Ave S (Phillips West neighborhood)Officer responded to the above location for a Burglary Report. Victim 1 and Victim 2 both had items taken from residence. Victim1 and Victim 2 were given a blue (victim resources) card.

 

11-16, 4:05 pm to 4:15 pm 30xx Portland Ave S (Central neighborhood) The witness observed the suspect pull open the old wood garage door. The suspect removed the listed item and walk away westbound. Officers checked the area with the witness but could not locate the suspect. The victim was advised and given a blue (victim resources) card.

 

Auto Theft (2)

11-10, 7:00 am to 8:00 am  31st St E & 23rd Ave S (Corcoran neighborhood) Victim stated his vehicle (MN 918-MUZ) was stolen from the listed location during the listed times. The vehicle is a 1995 purplish-gray Honda Civic 4 door with 17inch chrome wheels. The Auto Desk was notified. The victim was given a blue (victim resources) card. The victim stated he has the keys to the vehicle and no one was permitted to use the vehicle.

 

11-11, 10:00 pm to 11-12, 7:00 am  31xx Longfellow Ave S (Corcoran neighborhood)Victim’s vehicle was stolen from the street in front of his residence. No suspect information.

11-10  18xx Lake St E: Sharmake Mohamed Aden arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail for Open Bottle, No Valid Drivers License, No  Proof of Insurance, Flee Officer on Foot and Traffic Law Enforcement.

 

11-10  Lake St E & Portland Ave S: Daryl Jerome Collins arrested and booked in Hennepin County Jail for 2 Felony Warrants (Probation Violation and Narcotics Violation).

 

11-10  28th St E & Park Ave S: Anthony Victor Sosa Lopez issued a citation for No Valid Drivers License and Fail to Stop (Semaphore).

 

11-10  31xx 19th Ave S: Juvenile reprimanded and released for Assault 5-Attempt to Cause Bodily Harm.

 

11-10  Lake St E & Longfellow Ave S: Juvenile reprimanded and released for Disorderly Conduct.

 

11-10  8xx Lake St E: Marc Stone Pizarro arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail for Theft and a Misdemeanor Warrant.

 

11-11  32nd St E & Hiawatha Ave S: Juvenile issued a citation for No Valid Drivers License.

 

11-11  22xx Lake St E: Jerome Davis, Jr arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail for Assault 5-Attempt to Cause Bodily Harm.

 

11-12  Lake St E & 17th Ave S: Genaro Henry Gomez issued a citation for No Proof of Insurance.

 

11-13  2xx Lake St E: Abdiwali Abdi issued a citation for Driving After Cancelling Cancellation and Traffic Law Enforcement.

 

11-13  Lake St E & Columbus Ave S:  Traci Lavette Scott issued a citation for Hit and Run with Injury.

 

11-14  31st St E & 14th Ave S: Uriel Martinez Cruz issued a citation for Driving After Revocation and No Proof of Insurance.

 

11-14  Lake St E & 5th Ave S: Maurissa Rachelle Schwake issued a citation for Driving After Suspension.

 

11-14  Lake St E & Clinton Ave S: Cassandra Rose Peplinski arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail for a Misdemeanor Warrant.

11-13  29xx Chicago Ave S: Michael James Bowser arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail for a Felony Warrant.
