Minutes from May 20, 2114 meeting:

After everybody had introduced themselves, Baba talked about the new Indian restaurant, which is going to bring in Bollywood dancing as a promotion.  There is increasing concern about security because of street people hanging out in the restrooms, especially at night, including a couple of heroin overdoses in the last 3 weeks.
John said there was a stabbing May 13 in the alley between Hamdi & Butlers.  The victim has 43 arrests and the assailant has 23 arrests, so this was not an attack on an innocent victim.  Dave B. says everybody wants the alley closed.  John says that over the winter, the big problem was robbery of Hispanic men with large amounts of cash or with theft of smart phones.  Julie says she walked to the meeting and saw some undercover cops patting down some guys hanging out in the bus shelter at 12th & Lake.  John said the undercover cops have been very busy on Lake St.  The portable cameras on a tall pole are somewhat effective at getting the bad guys to go elsewhere, but lots of demand for a small number of cameras.  There are some late afternoon into the evening patrols on Lake St. and in Phillips with some Spanish speakers and some Somali speakers.
May Day Parade was very good this year and the weather was great.
July 4th–daytime activities at Powderhorn Park, but no fireworks.  The only fireworks in the city will be downtown.
Baba talked about the music festival on July 19.  They have almost enough money.  The program is mostly set.  There will be 3 stages, with the quieter acts inside.
Nick says U.S. Bank on Lake St. Is setting up a display for a month at a time promoting a local business.
