Legislators Will Discuss 2010 Legislative Session

State Senators and Representatives from the Ninth Ward will speak at March’s Breakfast with Gary on Friday, February 26, 2010.

Sen. Patricia Torres Ray ,
Sen. Linda Berglin ,
Rep. Jim Davnie ,
Rep. Karen Clark and
Rep. Jeff Hayden

will attend along with Gene Ranieri, Director of the City’s Intergovernmental Relations Committee. “The 2010 legislature will work on the restoration of general assistance medical care (GAMC), the budget deficit, capital bonding and job creation. The GAMC bill will hopefully survive a Governor’s veto threat. The budget deficit is $1.2 billion for the current biennium and approximately $5 billion for the next. The Governor has proposed to balance the current budget by reducing state aid to cities by $125 million. Minneapolis’ share of the cut is $28.9 million. Capital bonding could provide funding for several city, county and park board projects and the jobs bill is intended to stimulate construction of private projects,” Gene Rainieri said.

Breakfast with Gary is a monthly meeting held from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. the final Friday of the month at the Mercado Central, 1515 East Lake Street. $5 buys breakfast.
